Training Options
Funding Your Training
What are the Options Available?
Fully Funded Apprenticeships
If you’re new to the profession, an apprenticeship is an excellent way to get started. Our fully funded Level 3 TA/LSA apprenticeships allow you to work and train at the same time without any tuition costs. Apprenticeships are ideal for those looking to gain experience and qualifications while earning a wage.
Government Funding and Grants
There are various government grants and funding schemes available depending on your circumstances. These options often cover specific training programs and qualifications. Swift can help you identify the most suitable funding option and guide you through the application process.
Employer Contributions
If you’re already working as a TA or LSA, your school or employer might contribute towards your training costs. Swift can work with your employer to secure funding for courses that enhance your skills and advance your career, such as SEN training or progression to an HLTA role.
Advanced Learner Loans
For those aged 19 and over, Advanced Learner Loans provide another option to cover the cost of further education and training. This loan is available for professional development courses, such as Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualifications or SEN specialisation. The loan is not income-dependent, and repayments begin only once you’re earning above the repayment threshold.

FAQs
What funding options are available for TA/LSA training?
There are several funding options available to support your training, including fully funded apprenticeships, Advanced Learner Loans, and government grants. These options can help cover the costs of your course and qualifications, whether you’re new to the role or looking to upskill.
What is a fully funded apprenticeship?
A fully funded apprenticeship allows you to gain a qualification while working as a TA or LSA, without paying any tuition fees. The government and employers cover the costs, and you’ll earn a wage while gaining valuable on-the-job experience.
Am I eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan?
Advanced Learner Loans are available to learners aged 19 and over who want to take approved courses at Level 3 and above. This loan can help cover the costs of professional development or qualifications, such as the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification or SEN specialisations. Repayments start only once you’re earning above the repayment threshold.
Do I have to pay back the Advanced Learner Loan?
Yes, but you only begin repayments once you’re earning above the repayment threshold, which is currently £27,295 a year (subject to change). If your income falls below this, repayments stop until you’re earning over the threshold again.
Can I access funding if I’m already working as a TA or LSA?
Yes, if you’re already employed as a TA or LSA, you can still access funding through employer contributions or an Advanced Learner Loan to further your education. Many schools are willing to invest in your development, especially if you’re pursuing qualifications like SEN specialisations or HLTA status.
